University & Admission

Dubai hosts a wide range of universities and international branch campuses (IBCs) from which students can obtain degrees from the UK, USA, Australia, India, Russia, and many other countries. However, with this diversity comes complexity, including differences in tuition fees, visa prerequisites, and the overall quality of the programs on offer. This part aims to assist students in selecting an appropriate university, as well as to clarify the process of admission, necessary steps, and documents.

How to Choose a University

Tip: Always check if your chosen program is accredited by the KHDA (Knowledge and Human Development Authority) or CAA (Commission for Academic Accreditation).

Admission Requirements & Documents

Most universities follow a rolling admissions process. General requirements often include:

•  Passport copy

•  Previous academic transcripts

•  English proficiency test (IELTS/TOEFL, often waived if previous education was in English)

•  Personal statement or motivation letter

•  Application fee (varies from AED 150–500)

Some programs may require an interview or portfolio (especially in design/media fields).

Visa & Enrollment Process

Documents & Rules to Know

•  Equivalency Certificate: Required for some postgrad programs or for public-sector employment later.

•  Attestation of previous diplomas: May be needed if coming from outside the UAE.

•  Student visa requirements: Some universities only sponsor full-time students, not part-time enrollees.

Important: Student visas do not allow full-time work, but part-time internships are allowed under certain conditions.

Pitfalls to Avoid

•  Choosing by name only: A prestigious-sounding university doesn’t always mean high teaching quality in Dubai.

•  Not checking accreditation: Degrees from unaccredited institutions may not be recognized by employers or governments.

•  Missing deadlines: Some programs fill up early — apply at least 4–5 months before intended start date.

•  Hidden costs: Check if tuition includes books, lab access, or student activity fees.
